San Diego Lactation Equity Alliance
Join Our Mission
To create a future where every family in San Diego can thrive with equal access to lactation support, fostering healthier generations through informed and equitable lactation practices.
We are reducing racial and socioeconomic disparities in lactation support by increasing access to IBCLCs for marginalized groups through subsidized visits, culturally-relevant training for community practitioners, and scholarships and internships to support BIPOC individuals in becoming lactation professionals.

About Our Alliance
The San Diego Lactation Equity Alliance is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to ensuring that all families in San Diego County have equitable access to lactation support, education, and resources. We strive to eliminate disparities and promote healthy lactation practices across diverse communities.
Community outreach is at the core of our efforts to promote healthy lactation practices. We engage with diverse communities to raise awareness, provide support, and advocate for policies that prioritize breastfeeding as a fundamental aspect of family health and well-being.
In the past 3 years we have served over 2,500 families and we hope to continue supporting the future of our community.
Our Initiatives

Free Lactation Education
Our new groups and classes will provide essential knowledge and resources to support families in their breastfeeding journey. Also through workshops, consultations, and community events, we empower families with the information and skills needed for successful breastfeeding. Coming soon, milk safety classes and breastfeeding friendly environments for childcare providers.

Reduced Cost Lactation Support
We are dedicated to developing resources that enhance the breastfeeding experience for families. From creating accessible lactation spaces to providing educational materials, our focus is on ensuring families have the support they need for a positive breastfeeding experience. Our funding subsidizes visits for BIPOC & low income families.

Lactation Professional Scholarships
In partnership with UC San Diego Extension Lactation Program, Lactation Education Resources, and Breastfeed LA, SDLEA is pleased to offer lactation scholarship opportunities to BIPOC individuals in San Diego, Imperial & Riverside counties. Scholarships cover academic program costs, as well as support funds for additional expenses associated with course work and clinical rotations to become an IBCLC.

![Fighting Forward: Defending Black Breastfeeding Support in a Shifting Policy Landscape
Policy changes are threatening vital support for Black breastfeeding families, with cuts to DEI initiatives, maternal health programs, and community-based organizations. These changes mean fewer resources for lactation support and culturally competent care, deepening health disparities for Black families.
But we’re not backing down! Let’s stay informed, strengthen our networks, advocate for change, and invest in Black-led solutions. Together, we can defend Black maternal and infant health.
